From Al Qasr to Asyut.

Hello everyone, I am in Asyut tonight. I left Al Qasr today and traveled on mico-buses all the way to Asyut. The arrival was kind of intense because this town is kind of like a small Cairo just without the tourists and hassle. People are very nice and many people speak English due to the University being in town. This town is a major train – bus connecting hub. I will be leaving for Luxor tomorrow.

I had a wonderful time in Al Qasr. Many different types of tourists arrived and stayed from one night to three nights. Two groups of three Belgium’s and a couple from the Chez Republic, two week holiday makers, stayed three days. Very nice people to visit with. There was a guy from Finland who is bike-cycling around the world. He already biked from Southeast Asia to Finland and now biking down the east side of Africa from Egypt to South Africa. It was a very interesting January visiting the Oasis in the new valley. The weather was very interesting also, very cold some nights. The whole month I have been eating Bedouin food, I have to admit I am ready for a nice big hamburger. I also finished reading the Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain. I will be looking for a new book in Luxor.

The above map doesn’t show Asyut, it is the next major city north of Luxor and south of Minya. I will be posting pictures soon once I am on some fast DSL in Luxor.
