Ultra Light Gear

Today I thought of sharing some ideas on ultra light gear. The best company I found regarding ultra light gear is Mont-bell.com. Very durable, well made, and very light gear with a price. The ultra light inner down jacket that I bought for $140.00 is well worth the cost. It weighs 13 oz only, and packs down very small. Plus since it is down filled it can stay packed for a good long time. I also bought their umbrella which is only about 6 inches long and weighs about 6 oz and opens into a large size umbrella.

The rain pants I bought was from golite.com packs as small as an apple. My rain jacket, the cabelas ultra light gore tex jacket was only $80.00, packs small and weighs very little. Very durable for the rain plus I can wear as a wind breaker. The 2 in 1 pants from Cabela’s unzip in to shorts which I have found to be the most convenient pair of pants, lite and dries fast.

The Compact Travelin’ Toiletries Kit from ricksteves.com was the smallest kit I could find to hold all of the toiletries. It has a hook to hang it. Basically I am just bringing what I need, the bare minimum which adds up to 25 lbs. I learned on a trip to Seattle that the weight can add up fast and there is no reason to take anything that I might not need.

One other every interesting type of gear is a Sleep sack. They are made from 100% silk and very light to carry. I bought two which one can be put into the other. Having a sleep sack provides my own bedding for any hostel that charges for bedding or any place that the bedding sheets may seem not as clean as they should be. Stay tune for more Traveling ideas.
