The majestic land of Pharaohs and the Great Pyramids, Egypt is chaotic and beautiful. However, nowhere else in the world can you find the ambience and the wealth that Egypt offers to travelers. While most people travel to Egypt to see the Pyramids, the country offers many more wonders to explore.
Not surprisingly, Egypt is considered to be one of the top travel destinations. Its strategic placement between Asia and Africa gives it key positioning. Along with the ancient monuments and temples that are an ode to the glorious past, Egypt also offers travels a glimpse at its modern thriving cities. Cairo offers a unique experience, a perfect blend of the old and the new.
I first traveled Egypt when I departed America in November 2007. I extended my visa, and slowly traveled Egypt for 5 months. Egypt is an amazing place to visit, although can be very difficult for the independent traveler, and more so for a single female.
During the 5 months in Egypt I rented a house in Siwa for a week, couchsurfed for 2 weeks in Cairo, lived with a family on the west bank of Luxor for 9 days, and house sat for a week in Dahab for one week.
The Red Sea with miles of sandy beaches and perfect coral reefs is a treat to visit. There are many water sports to enjoy your time on the beaches, and the variety of hotels along the beaches will offer you everything from luxurious stays to cheap affordable rooms. But that is not all, you can also enjoy camel rides in the endless desert, jeep safaris and hot air balloon rides to make your trip to Egypt more memorable.
Adventure seekers and golf enthusiasts will love a trip to Egypt. A trip to Sharm El Sheikh will offer excellent diving possibilities, coupled with the best resorts in the country. Any trip to Egypt is incomplete without exploring the Nile. Choose to stay at a river resort and expect to be bewildered by the wonders of this river that holds a special place in Egyptian culture.
The best time to visit Egypt is from October to March, when the weather is perfect, though the time between March to May is also not a bad time to plan your trip. A lot of people prefer to travel to Egypt in winter months – between November and February.
